Galloway 2nd XI v Hillhead CC

On a beautiful Sunny Spring day with the ground looking superb, Galloway 2nd’s hosted Hillhead in the second game of their league campaign. Hillhead won the toss and elected to Bowl. Having struggled to put up many runs in the previous week, Galloway made steady progress, assisted by some rather wayward Bowling on the part of Hillhead. As the total crept up wickets did however gradually tumble, but decent knocks from both Marsay (27) and Swift (17), supported by Stannus and Adams, allowed Galloway to ultimately post a total of 130 from 38.3 overs, a reasonable total and an improvement from the previous week. Notable bowling performances from Hillhead were A Afsel 3-17 and AB Rashid 2-17.

After a much needed break for tea and some fluids, Hillhead took to the field and Galloway sought to defend what was a reasonable, if not hugely unassailable target. Good effort was made with both fielding and bowling, and some initial success was had with Hillhead falling to 1-13 and then 2-44, sadly, after that despite best efforts Galloway were unable to dislodge any more batters, and H Aqeel deserves mention for an unbeaten 71 which saw his side home eventually in 28.4 overs. A modest total, a few too many loose balls, and a lack of some more variety and pace in the bowling ultimately meant Galloway came up short. However, continuing improvement is evident, there are definitely more runs to be had yet from the batters in the team, and the effort levels and morale of the team remains positive. A win will surely soon be forthcoming. Thanks to our Match Ball sponsors, Park of Tongland Farm, and player of the match for Galloway was J (Howie) Bradley for a very good spell of bowling which was frugal, really tested the batters, and was unlucky not to deliver some wickets.
